Bomb-blasted Nazi war plant in Nüremburg. Twisted girders tossed over piles of rubble mark the onetime pattern shop of the Nüremburg plant of the Maschinenfabrik Augsburg-Nüremburg (M.A.N.) war industrial units as a result of bombings by the Eighth U.S. Air Force and the RAF. A U.S. soldier picks his way through the debris of the factory in the onetime festival city of the Nazi Party, captured April 20, 1945, by troops of the Seventh U.S. Army. During 10 bombing missions, planes of the two allied forces dropped more than 22,009,800 pounds of high explosives on targets in the Nüremburg sector, including M.A.N. plants, three airfields, the Daimler-Benz tank works, Siemens-Schukert electrical works, marshalling yards and railway workshops.
