Japanese soldiers evacuate Cape Futtsu Fort as U.S. marines move in. Unarmed and carrying their personal belongings, Japanese soldiers evacuate a fort at Cape Futtsu, on Tokyo Day on Aug. 29, 1945, as U.S. Marines move in. Other American forces and small British contingents landed on three island forts in the vicinity. Troops of the Eleventh U.S. Airborne Division meanwhile began their mass landings at Atsugi, southwest of Tokyo. U.S. sailors and marines from Third Fleet ships anchored in Tokyo Day landed at or near Yokosuka naval base, as the large scale military occupation of Japan began. This is a radiophoto sent to the U.S. from the Fhird Fleet. NI 9252
