U.S. troops uncover new atrocities near Gardelegen. U.S. Military Government authorities question a German soldier (third from right) suspected of having participated in the mass murders of a group of Polish, Russian and Jewish prisoners who eluded their guards in the vicinity of Estedt, Germany, while being marched to the notorious Gardelegen concentration camp four miles to the south. Farmers in the area turned the refugees over to German authorities, who marched them to a remote spot, dug graves and shot them in cold blood. The U.S. Military Government ordered German civilians to exhume the bodies and provide decent burial.
