German prisoner enjoys U.S. Army ration. A German soldier, captured during Allied Fifth Army patrol action in the Anzio area of Western Italy, enjoys a can of U.S. Army field rations while waiting to be transported to a prisoner-of-war depot in Southern Italy. From their beachhead position at Anzio, Fifth Army forces lashed out against the Germans twelve days after the start of the new Allied offensive in Italy which began on May 11, 1944. Other units of the Fifth Army continued hammering at enemy positions in Central Italy while the British Eighth Army kept up its strong attack against the Adolf Hitler Line of German fortifications.
