U.S. Forces cross Roer River in new drive. Infantrymen of the Ninth U.S. Army, concealed from enemy oservation by chemical fog, cross the Roer River in Germany at the start of the large scale offensive launched February 24, 1945. In the first 24 hours of the new American offensive toward the Rhine, 15 villages were stormed and 1,400 prisoners taken.
