Contingency stockpile. U.S. heavy bombers blast German aircraft plant in East Prussia.
Contingency stockpile. U.S. heavy bombers blast German aircraft plant in East Prussia. A German Focke-Wulf aircraft factory at Marienburg in East Prussia before an attack by a large formation of Flying Fortresses and Liberators of the Eighth U.S. Army Air Force based in England. A few mintus later, the whole area was ablaze. When the smoke had cleared, shattered buildings and gaping craters were all that remained of the large plant. To reach their distant target, the heavy bombers, escorted by 1,000 U.S. fighter planes, crossed in daylight strongly defended areas in Germany.
