American Military Government in Germany. Members of the occupying forces and the Military Government detachment work in close cooperation on matters affecting German civilians and Allied troops. Left to right are: Colonel Walter Burnside, Chief of Staff, Ninth Armored Division; Major General John W. Leonard, Commanding General Ninth Armored Division; Lieutenat Colonel Ewing L. Lusk, Jr., intelligence office of the division; Lieutenant Colonel Carrol J. Reilly, Military Government Officer in Bayreuth. All contact between the occupying forcrs and the German people is through the Military Government detachment. All material neede by the occupation troops is requisitioned through the Military Government officer, who in turn works through the Burgemeister.
