Fredrich Bermann (left), who had served on Bayreuth's police force for 40 years and who retired during the Nazi administration, had been recalled from retirement to head the group. Lacking uniforms, which have been ordered, the police are permitted to carry rifles to preserve law and order among the German civilians and to guard valuable properties. Theu have no power to arrest or exercise any authority over Allied Military personnal. All actions taken by German police officers with respect to nationals of the United Nations must first be cleared with the Public Safety Officer. The policemen are paid 180 marks a month by the Burgemeister.
