Retired Okinawan school teacher aids U.S. Military Government Takar Senset, 70-year-old retired school teacher on Okinawa, has been of great aid to the American Military Government, which has been established by the U.S. Tenth Army on the strategic outpost, 375 miles (600 km.) from Japan. Takara informs island leaders of American intentions and helps them bring about friendly cooperation. American forces landed on Okinawa on March 31, 1945, and by June 5, the U.S. Sixth Marine Division forces had begun an assault on the big Naha airfield after having gained control of almost all of the main Ryukyu (Loochoo) island.
