Reinforcements for allies fighting in Normandy.
Reinforcements for allies fighting in Normandy. American soldiers of the Allied Expeditionary Force clamer from an LCI (landing craft-infantry) vessel, which carried them across the English Channel, into a landing barge that will transport them over the remaining distance to the shore of France. Under a protective umbrella of barrage balloons, an armada of LCI's stretches across the horizon carrying thousands of reinforcements for Allied troops pressing steadily against the remaining German defenses on the Cotentin Peninsula. With the air and sea routes open, men and supplies have been steadily shipped to Normandy to add to the force of the Allied drive which, by June 23, 1944, had completed the encirclement of the strategiec port of Cherbourg.
