U.S. planes blast another German oil refinery. A B024 Liberator wings toward home after formations of heavy bombers of the Eight U.S. Air Force poured explosives on the Bazi oil refineries at Politz, Germany, during an attack on enemy military installations June 20, 1944. One thousand American planes took part in the day's raids on 12 of Germany's biggest oil plants in one of the most effective blows ever hurled at the German war machine. The Allied air arm hammered plants producing 250,000 tons of oil a month, including four of the largest crude oil refineries in Germany.
