Church salvage work begins in Normandy. A Cherbourg architect, M. Rene Lavavasseur, charged by the French Government with the preservation of historical monuments in the Department of La Manche, lists damage to the beautiful sculptured bell of the church of St. Jacques of Montebourg while Paul Boulot, the mason assigned to the task of repairing the bell tower, looks on. This church stands near the beachheads where U.s. troops landed and the town was damaged.
