This is a face of the France that wouldn't die.
This is a face of the France that wouldn't die. A mere boy of 14 when France fell to the Germans, this 18-year-old is a member of the French underground that never abandoned the fight for freedom. On his shoulder is the Cross of Lorraine, insignia of the French Forces of the Interior which are recognized by the United Nations as part of the regular armed forces. The youth was one of the patriots who met the American forces when the Norman port of Cherbourg was liberated on June 26, 1944, and he brought with him useful military information about the enemy. Supreme headquarters of the Allied Expeditionary Forces on July 10, 1944, said that patriot cooperation had proven "inevitiable" in the Norman campaign.
