French women work for the U.S. Army.
French women work for the U.S. Army. French girls cut patterns from army blankets to make "fox-hole boots" for front-line U.S. soldiers. Filled with straw, the boots are put over regular footwear to protect the soldier from cold and dampness. The idea was originated by a U.S. Army Civil Affairs office, but the boots have not yet been used by the troops. American authorities revealed January 24, 1945, that 75,000 French civilians are working for the U.S. Army. They are paid by the French Government on a Lend-Lease basis.
