SPIN-PROOF PRIVATE PLANE ON SALE IN U.S. Fulton M. Moore waves as he starts the maiden flight of the Ercoupe, U.S. private plane, from Washington, the nation's capital, to Chicago, on Oct. 3, 1945. Customers can now place orders for the low-wing monoplane, and delivery is guaranteed by Nov. 1 - two months after the Japanese signed the surrender documents. The cost is $2,994. The Ercoupe is spin-proof, and is equipped with a tricycle landing gear to ensure safe landings. The plane, which can carry two people plus 50 to 60 pounds (22-27 kgs.) of baggage, has a 30-foot (9-meter) wing span, a height of almost six feet (1.8 meters) and is 20 feet, nine inches long (6 meters, 22 cm.). The Ercoupe has a maximum cruising range of 500 miles (800 kms.) and a cruising speed of 110 miles (176 kms.) per hour. Synchronized control of rudder and ailerons, and other safety factors, make it possible to learn to solo in the Ercoupe in one-third less time than is usually required.
