U.S. doctor goes to aid of Allied seaman. Riding a breeches buoy between a U.S. Coast Guard escort destroyer and an Allied merchant ship, Dr. James W. Todd of the U.S. Public Health Service goes to the aid of a seaman who needs immediate medical attention on the convoy vessel. Public Health doctors are assigned to all Coast Guard vessels, whereas the U.S. Navy has its own medical serivce. The action, taking place somewhere in the Mediterranean, has been repeated many times as Alllied ships pour men and materials into the European and Pacific war theaters.
