The 'Panay' funeral procession down the Yangtse as seen from British gunboat.
4 januari 1938
The 'Panay' funeral procession down the Yangtse as seen from British gunboat. This picture, just recieved in Londen, was made from the British gunboat 'Ladybird', as the funeral procession of those who lost their lives in the sinking by the Japanese of the American gunboat 'Panay' near Hoshien passed down the Yangtse River to Shanghai. Following the 'Ladybird', which had herself suffered damage at the hands of Japanese gunners, are the American gunboat 'Oahu', and three merchant vessels. With flags at half-mast, the ships are made a perilous passage down a river made dangerous by mines.
