Germans kill Italian civilians in Rionero.
Germans kill Italian civilians in Rionero. Burial rites are held for 16 Italian citizens who were slain by the Germans in Rionero, Italy. Relatives kneel at the new grave of one of the victims. The sign nailed to the cross reads: "To the martyrs of Nazi-Fascist ferocity". The man at the left nearest to het cross was among the intended victims of the Germans. He was wounded in the leg and left for one of the dead. The mass slaying was in retaliation for the wounding of one German soldier, after residents of the village had objected to the Germans taking their cicheks.
