Graves of greek victims line ighway. The graves of 49 Greeks, slain by the Germans for a reason still unrevealed, line the main highway leading north from the city of Levadeia in southern Greece. The grave in the foreground has been marked off by soorowing relatives who erected the white picket fence and placed a photograph of the victim on a stand. A German custom during their occupation of the nation was to execute 50 Greeks for every German reported slain by patriots. One man slated for execution with the group that occupies these graves was wounded and left for dead, with the bodies of the other victims piled of him, but he later recovered and walked away.
