Greek LST sails with allied navies. The Chios is commanded by Captain Thanos Spanides, former commander of the Greek submarine Papnicolas, which accounted for several Nazi ships in the Mediterranean. Named after one of the Greek islands, she is one of four LST's (landing ship, tank) whioch were built in the U.S. and supplied to the Royal Hellenic Navy under lease-lend.
