Including battleships, cruisers, destroyers, aircraft carriers, transports and other vessels, the task force is a development of this war, combining all components on land, sea and aerial warfare into a single powerful weapon. Navy task forces have sent the Japanese reeling back in the Pacific, and spearheaded the capture of Saipan and the landing of U.S. forces on Guam in the Marianas on July 20, 1944.
