British Ambassador decorates American General. The Earl of Halifax (left), Britich Ambassador to the United States, presents to Major General Howard A. Craig of the U.S. Army Air Forces the insignia of a Companion of the Order of the Britisch Empire conferred to the American general by King George VI. The presentation took place at the British Embassy in Washington, the American capital, on June 14, 1944. The award was made for Gen. Craig's services in the formation of a combined Anglo-American headquarters 'during the critical phase of the North African campaign'. Other awards conferred by King George to Americans serving either in the United States or British Commonwealth forces were presented by Lord Halifax at the ceremony which was attended by a large number of highranking American and British officers.
