General Eisenhower takes salute. Generaal Dwight D. Eisenhower, Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Allied Expeditionary Force, takes the salute during a review of Allied airborne troops at a ceremony at which General Eisenhower announced that a new army had been formed, combining all British and U.S. airborne forces. Lieutenant General Lewis H. Brereton, former head of the Ninth U.S. Air Force, is in command with Lieutenant General Frederick A.M. Browning of the British Army as his deputy. Formation of the new army will integrate and make more effective the large airborne forces now at the disposal of the Supreme Allied Command.
