U.S. Army Chief of State decorated by French President. General Charles de Gaulle, President of the French Provisional Government, presents the Grande Croix of the Legion of Honor to General of the Army George C. Marshall, U.S. Army Chief of Staff, at the French Embassy in Washington, U.S. capital. General Marshall and other topranking U.S. officers were decorated by the French leader who arrived in the U.S. on August 22. After a three-day state visit with U.S. President Harry S. Truman, General de Gaulle will tour sites of national interest and industrial plants in several large American cities.
