On trial for mass murders. Hustav Sorge (right back), called ':Iron gustav', and Wilhelm Schubert, called 'Trigger-happy Schubert', stand in the dock during the opening of their trial for mass murders, committed at the Esterwege and Sachsenhausen concentration camps. Seated in front are their lawyers, dr. Hans Degen (left) and dr. Willi Schumacher. They are charged with killings of 10 800 Soviet prisoners of war, and the cruel murders of Polish and Jewish concentration camp inmates. Their trial is expected to last two or three months.
