'Dutch women and children evacuated from Java to Siam. Owing to repeated attacks on RAPWI and internment camps in Java by Indonesians, close on 2,500 Dutch women and children have been evacuated to safety in Bangkok and other parts of Siam. One party of evacuees made the voyage in H.M. Landing Craft L 270. On arrival at Klongtoi (Klong Toey) Docks, Bangkok, on 20th December, British naval ratings helped the passengers ashore and Japs were made to carry their bagage. WVC en FANY units welcomed the travellers with a meal, and then the women and children were convoyed to camps in Bangkok pending their dispersal up-country. The journey to Siam brought about many reunions between Dutch women and their husbands who had been forced to labour on the railways in Siam during the Jap occupation. .... Arrival of Dutch evacuees at Bangkok.' In werkelijkheid zouden 4000 Nederlandse vrouwen en kinderen geëvacueerd worden. De koffers werden niet door Japanners gedragen, maar door Thai. NI 949
