Kalendarium der Ereignisse im Konzentrationslager Auschwitz-Birkenau 1939-1945
A chronology of events in Auschwitz, based on official camp documents, prisoners' notes hidden in the camp or smuggled out to underground organizations, testimony in war crimes trials, and memoirs of victims and camp personnel (including Rudolf Höss, the commander). Much of the material is now in the archives of the State Museum in Auschwitz. Notes in the introduction that although the Nazis destroyed most of the records, these were scattered in so many offices that some were overlooked. Others were secretly copied by prisoners employed as clerks. The chronology includes the history of the camp; the arrival of transports, with numbers, nationality, and place of origin; administrative decisions and directives; selections, deaths, and killings, with statistics and many names of individual victims. 1.
