Nach Nürnberg : Vergangenheitsbewältigung und Westintegration in der Ära Adenauer
Describes the influence of West Germany's treatment of Nazi criminals on its relationship with the Western Allies, particularly Great Britain and the USA. Pp. 276-316 describe the antisemitic incidents of 1959-60. States that until that time, Allied observers had been satisfied with Germany's treatment of its Jews. They noted that officials guilty of antisemitic remarks were dismissed and tried. The German government had strong grounds for believing that the incidents of 1959 were instigated by East German agents; but although it sought to demonstrate its good will toward Jews and Israel, and also began to take more serious steps to prosecute Nazi criminals, public opinion and the press in the West saw the incidents as symptoms of renazification. Pp. 335-351 deal with West Germany's efforts during the Eichmann trial to distance itself from its Nazi past, and with Great Britain's attempts to meet criticism for its inaction in the Holocaust. 1. Aufl. 469 pages : illustrations, portraits ; 23 cm
