U.S. troops move up on St. Lo. An American infantryman, well concealed in his foxhole, take aim at a German sniper somewhere on the outskirts of St. Lo, Normandy. St. Lo, bitterly defended Nazi communication center, fell to U.S. troops of the Allied Expeditionary Force July 18, 1944, after an eight-day siege.
