The rise and fall of the Nazi State. Part I. The growth of the Nazi Party. Troops of German Army maneuver with wooden tanks. Men of the German Army train for combat during maneuvers in 1931. Although restricted in the manufacture of weapons and armored vehicles under the terms of the Treaty of Versailles, the German Army used wooden tanks and military equipment left over from the War of 1914-1918 to keep its troops geared for war. The Nazi Party made use of this continued emphasis on militarism and after assuming power in Germany augmented the obligatory military training to include boys in their teens, as well as adult males.
