Martyred by U.S. airmen.
Martyred by U.S. airmen. Two American airmen, murdered by the Nazis after their plane had crashed in May, 1944, were thrown into this one casket and buried on the edge of a cemetery in Lochtum, Germany, approximately 32 miles northwest of Nordhausen, Germany. Liberated Polish slave workers testified that the Americans were marched through the streets of the town by Nazi police, were stoned and then shot. The Judge Advocate Section, War Crimes Branch of the Ninth U.S. Army, which is investigating the case, found all means of identification removed by the murderers.
