Nuremburg after bombing.
Nuremburg after bombing. Choked with debris, a bombed water intake of the Pegnitz River no longer supplies war factories in Nuremburg, vital Reich industrial city and festival center of the Nazi party which was captured April 20, 1945, by troops of the Seventh U.S. Army. During 10 bombing missions, planes of the Eighth U.S. Air Force and the RAF unloosed more than 22,009,800 pounds of high explosives on high priority targets in Nuremburg, including units of the Maschinenfabrik Augsburg-Nuremburg (M.A.N.) interlocking war industries. The Nuremburg branch of the factories, which produced turbines, diesel engines, steam engines and boilers for powering submarines, tanks, motor vehicles and heavy trucks, lies between two railway centers, both of which were targets of Allied bombers.
