General Eisenhower presents bronze SHAEF insignia to French capital. A bronze replica of the Supreme Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Force insignia, presented to the city of Paris by General of the Army Dwight D. Eisenhower, Supreme Commander in Chief of the SHAEF organization, has been placed at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier under the Arc de Triomphe in the French capital. The plaque of the flaming sword was unveiled by Major General John Lewis in behalf of General Eisenhower, September 8, 1945. With General Lewis were Major General H. Rodmann of the British Army and General Rognault of the French Army. The Allied military leaders were received by General Jacques Legentilhomme, Military Governor of Paris.
