General Eisenhower presents bronse SHAEF insignia to French capital. Major General John Lewis, acting on behalf of General of the Army Dwight D. Eisenhower, formerly Supreme Commander in Chief Allied Expeditionary Force, signs the Livre d'Or during ceremonies at the Arc de Triomphe, September 8, 1945, when a bronze replica of the SHAEF insignia was presented to the City of Paris. Attending the unveiling of the plaque which has been placed at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, were Major General H. Rodmann of the British Army and General Rognault of the French Army. General Jaques Legentilhomme, Military Governor of the French capital, received the Allied leaders.
