Iceland live saver studying in U.S. Larus Eggertsson (left), 23 year-old Icelander who was sent by his government to the U.S. to study American Coast Guard life saving methods, practices resuscitation at a Coast Guard station in the Southern U.S. Aided by an American boatswain's mate (right), Eggertsson practices on a prone U.S. seaman. Aiming toward the improvement of its coastal life-saving stations, the Icelandic government arranged for its youthful member of the Iceland Life Saving Association to remain in the U.S. for two years to learn all phases of the Coast Guard's peacetime work. Eggertsson's itinerary will include inland waterway patol, radio, air and medical units.
