U.S. PILOTS FLY FROM BRITISH CARRIER. U.S.
U.S. PILOTS FLY FROM BRITISH CARRIER. U.S. Navy pilots are shown aboard the British aircraft carrier Victorious where they served for several months while participating in offensive sweeps against the Japanese in the Coral Sea, the Southwest and the Midwest Pacific areas. The Victorious exchanged flying crews with a U.S. carrier as a tactical experiment. The pilots found that U.S. and British signalling systems for landing and methods of fighter control were similar and encountered no difficulty in operations. Before joining the U.S. Pacific fleet, the 23000-ton British carrier saw action in the North Sea, the Arctic, the Atlantic and the Mediterranean.
