U.S. jeeps roll forward in Italy. A long line of American jeeps rolls through the archway of an ancient Italian castle which the German defenders of Cisterna fortified in a vain attempt to halt the Allies liberation of that town. Cisterna fell on May 25, 1944, to troops of the Allied Fifth Army who lashed out from the Anzio beachhead area on the west coast of Italy. Ten days later, on June 4, Allies soldiers climaxed their smashing offensive against the Germans in Italy by liberating Rome, the Italian capital.
