Food for Rome Roman housewives move among the heavily laden carts in an open air market in Rome, where fruit and vegatables are to be found i plenty. When the Allies liberated the Italian capital Juno 3. 1944, there remainded only a few days supply of food in the city, the rest having been taken by the tetreating Germans. Aided by Allied authorities, huge stockpiles of ffod were hastily brought into the city from the surrounding countryside to meet th emergency. These supplies, together with the improved transport facilities, are rapidly alleviating the shortage.
