Giuseppe Spezza, 67, one of the Filetto villagers who, in June 1944, escaped a mass shooting by retreating German troops in which 17 persons died, points at the spot where the execution took place, few hundreds meters from the village. Relatives of the victims and survivors have asked Italian authorities that the man they hold responsible for the execution, former SS captain Matthias Defregger, now auxiliary Bishop of Munich, be tried by an Italian court. Bishop Defregger has publicy admitted that he had passed on an order to shoot the 17 Italians.
