View of Filetto, a 370-soul mountainous village of central Italy, that was the scene, in June 1944, of a mass shooting of 17 of its inhabitants by the German army retreating from Italy. Relatives of the victims and survivors are now asking that former SS captain Matthias Defregger, now auxiliary Bishop of Munich, be tried by an Italian court for allegedly having passed on an order for the execution of the 17 villagers.
