The rise and fall of the Nazi State. Part 1: The Growth of the Nazi Party. Un Unknown Agitator, Adolf Hitler made numerous political speeches on the snowy streets of Munich, a city in southern Germany, in which he served during the War of 1914-1918, thereby losing his Austrian citizenship. Born in Upper Austria in 1889, Hitler moved to Munich in 1912 because of a dislike for the Austro-Hungarian monarchy of the Hapsburgs. After his war service, he joined six other malcontents to form the group which later became the National Socialist Party.
