Jacques Doriot, du communisme au fascisme
Discusses the contradictory life and activities of Doriot, a leading French communist and founder of the first French fascist party, Parti Populaire Français, in 1934. The antisemitism of the PPF was moderate when it was first manifested in Algeria (pp. 263-264). Chs. 16-17 (pp. 310-350) describe Doriot's attitude towards the Jews and his collaboration with the Vichy regime and the German occupiers, who subsidized his journal "Le Cri du Peuple". In 1942 he published a plan to solve the "Jewish question" in France by means of discriminatory racial legislation which would separate the Jews from the rest of the population. Also describes calls by the PPF to adopt more severe measures against the Jews, and harassment by his "Gardes françaises".
