Der halbe Stern : Leben als deutsch-jüdischer "Mischling" im Dritten Reich
Reminiscences of the son of an Aryan father and a Jewish mother in Nazi Germany. In the hope of averting danger to the family, he joined Nazi student organizations which accepted "Mischlinge", and served with distinction in the Wehrmacht until he was dismissed in April 1941. Nevertheless, his family suffered increasing discrimination. He was not permitted to marry his Aryan partner. His parents were forced to divorce in order to enable his father to find employment to support the family. In 1944 his mother was deported to Theresienstadt (she survived), and in January 1945 the sons were sent to a labor camp. Surveys Nazi legislation affecting "Mischlinge". Includes bibliographical references (pages 138-139). 139 pages : illustrations ; 21 cm.
