Memoirs of a German Jew, born in Suhl in 1924. Pp. 25-71 deal with the Holocaust period. His family decided to emigrate in 1937; they asked American relatives for an affidavit, which was received. During the night after the "Kristallnacht" pogrom, Mühlfelder's father was arrested, but he was released after his official emigration papers were delivered by the American consulate. An additional obstacle to their emigration was the illness of Mühlfelder's sister, who was not accepted by the American authorities because of her condition, so his father emigrated alone.
