Holocaust journey : travelling in search of the past
A diary of a journey made in summer 1996 by Gilbert, together with a group of his students from University College, London. They went to Berlin (including Wannsee), Prague and Theresienstadt, Slovakia, the Polish cities of Krakow, Lublin, Warsaw, Parczew, Piotrków, Konin, Łódź, and others, the Nazi camps Auschwitz, Bełżec, Majdanek, Sobibór, Treblinka, and Chełmno, and numerous other sites connected with Jewish history, the Holocaust, and Jewish resistance. Each location evokes historical associations. In some places local residents, and in others monuments and plaques, help to remember the history of the vanished Jewish world of Central Eastern Europe and its annihilation by the Nazis. Includes maps and photographs. Includes bibliographical references (pages 453-456) and index. xvi, 480 pages, 24 unnumbered pages of plates : illustrations, maps ; 24 cm
