Die Taussigs : jüdische Familien- und Leidensgeschichte in Böhmen und Mähren 1909-1989
The author, a non-Jew, writes about the Jewish family of her first husband František (Franta) Taussig - the Taussigs of Hlinsko. Franta (1909-1941) was a communist party organizer and editor of a communist newspaper in Bruenn (Brno). He was arrested and shot by the Nazis in 1941 for his activities in the resistance. His parents and a younger brother, Josef (Pepek), a writer and artist, were sent to Theresienstadt, where Pepek contributed to the cultural life. The parents died in Auschwitz; Pepek survived Auschwitz and the death march to Flossenbürg, only to die three days before liberation. Pp. 35-38 contain a biography of Pepek by Elena Makarová, who made a film on theatrical performances in Theresienstadt. also contains some of Pepek's verses for the Theresienstadt cabaret and the story of the author, who was interned in Ravensbrück. 1.
