Memoirs of a Jew born in Amsterdam in 1919. Pp. 50-104 describe the German occupation of the Netherlands in May 1940, the anti-Jewish laws, the actions of Jewish resistance groups, and the collaboration of the Dutch and of the Judenrat with the Nazis. Gitter, a member of the resistance, fled with his mother and brothers in summer 1942 through Belgium to France. Gitter's father had emigrated to Argentina in 1940, and sent them visas. They received permission from the Vichy government to proceed from Lyon and cross the border into Spain, from whence they eventually arrived in Argentina.
