Geiger-Kohn family. Collection

Joseph Geiger was born in Storozhynets, Romania, on 13 January 1898. He became a master-tailor. In 1931 he married Juliana Kohn, born in Svaty Mikulas, Czechoslovakia, on 28 August 1907. In July 1938 the couple fled from Austria to Belgium, taking their daughter Gerda Geiger, born in Vienna on 2 August 1932, with them. Although they tried to leave for the United States, the family was not able to flee Europe. In June 1944 the Geiger-Kohn family was arrested. None of the family members survived deportation from the Dossin barracks to Auschwitz-Birkenau via Transport XXVI, the last deportation train to leave Belgium, on 31 July 1944.
