
Susan Wallace Family Papers
Susan Wallace (born 1917), nee von Portheim. Daughter of Elisabeth Ungar and Leopold von Portheim. Susan's husband Elmer Wallace (previously Wallach) is the son of Eugen Walach and Edith Geiger. Elmer's family emigrated to England in 1938. Susan's father Leopold was a successful botanist. He helped found the Vivarium in Wien and was head for the Department of Botany. He worked there until 1938 when he was expelled due to his Jewish background . Later the same year they moved to Britain. Parts of their extended families stayed in Europe and suffered under Nazi rule.
