Jewish Legacy in Thessaloniki
The forgotten sites of the old synagogues were located in the archive of the burned zone of the fire of 1917. The locations and the photographs of communal buildings during the interwar period were found in the Archive of the Jewish community of Thessaloniki. The findings regarding the Jewish topography of the city were the basis for the creation of the website available at: http://thessalonikijewishlegacy.com/sites.html, as well as an exhibition in the Jewish Museum of Thessaloniki. The website and the application contain information on the various aspects of the Jewish presence in Thessaloniki, such as religious life and tradition, daily life, economic and financial life, publishing activities, organisations and foundations, maps, the Holocaust and its aftermath. Both the website and the application contain photographs and the exact locations of existing and non existing synagogues, schools and foundations, historical buildings and jewish quarters, markets, and memorial sites. The website and the application also include maps of six suggested walking tours around the main sites of jewish interest in Thessaloniki.
